Charging logistics for long distances
28 hyperchargers for e-truck fleet
Container logistics company Contrail is one of the pioneers when it comes to sustainability. Thanks to our cooperation with the Autohaus Anders Group, we are able to support you in your next big step towards climate neutrality.
Together we developed a customised concept for Contrail. In January, the first six ultra-modern e-truck models will go into service with the transport company and our teams will start setting up the charging stations at eight locations in northern Germany.
“We are creating the entire charging infrastructure, including civil engineering. From concrete shafts for cable-pulling and earthing systems through to transformer stations. We are installing a total of 28 hyperchargers, each of which can provide 400 KW,” explains Sebastian Wigger, Team Leader Energy Technology and Building Automation. Since January, one of these transformer stations measuring around ten by three metres has been erected every fortnight. The biggest challenge here is the time factor. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs as part of the directive on the promotion of light and heavy commercial vehicles with alternative, climate-friendly drive systems and the associated refuelling and charging infrastructure (KsNI). The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and applications are approved by the Federal Office of Logistics and Mobility. Funding deadlines must be adhered to. And as the authorities are heavily overloaded due to the volume of energy transition projects, patience and good coordination are required in many areas.

However, time also plays a key role when charging lorries, as Wigger emphasises in conclusion: “The lorries can be permanently charged with 400 KW. This allows the drivers to ‘refuel’ the truck as quickly as possible during breaks and drive off again straight away.” Long-distance journeys according to the haulage plan are therefore guaranteed.
