Battery Energy Storage Systems improved:
More power in the same space
50 per cent is an outstanding result. So much more battery power in version 2.0 of our ready-to-connect Battery Energy Storage System, BESS for short. Our colleague Damian Wertulla, Product Manager for Battery Storage Systems, explains the consistent further development of our BESS container: “Through our project experience with the implementation of BESS 1.0 at Mählmann and Electrofleet, we realised that there was still a lot of room for improvement. By changing the design, we wanted to get more power and energy out of the same installation space.”
In March 2023, our team in Visbek began working with the specialists in our experts machine construction department to work out the optimisation potential. Following the successful completion of all development work, the prototype of the plug-and-play product BESS 2.0, in which 15 redundant battery storage systems with a total capacity of over 1.3 MWh (15 x 93 kWh) are installed, is currently being built in Visbek.
“We achieved the greatest space saving by designing a ‘rack system’ in which the inverters are mounted horizontally – to be more precise: 552 kVA/running metre instead of 368 kVA/running metre,” explains Wertulla and adds: “We have designed the BESS 2.0 to be modular, from the air conditioning and inverter to the battery technology, so that the components can be replaced individually if necessary and we can pre-manufacture the BESS to meet individual customer requirements.”
